42d Attack Squadron flys MQ-9 Reaper UAV's and is currently based out of Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs, Nevada. The 42d will oversee the training and combat deployment of pilots and sensor operators assigned to the new MQ-9 Reaper. According to squadron commander Lt. Colonel Jon Greene, by 2009, the 42d Attack Squadron should have 18 Reapers assigned for training and deployment purposes. All aircraft will employ the AN/DAS-52 Multi-Spectral Targeting System developed by Raytheon.^{[citation needed]}

History

The unit traces its history back to 1917 when it operated in Texas as a biplane training unit. The squadron saw action in World War II as bomber unit.

Reactivated on November 9, 2006, at Creech Air Force Base.

The unit received its first MQ-9 on March 13, 2007.[1]
